What Brings Patients to Country Foot Care Patchogue
Foot pain is an extremely common complaint. This is no surprise considering how much time we spend on our feet, many of us wearing shoes that are not sufficiently supportive. For some of us there are added stressors, such as having a hereditary tendency to foot and ankle problems, working at a job that involves a great deal of standing, being overweight or exercising without appropriate preparatory stretches. Among the most common reasons patients come to us are:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Turf toe
- Ingrown toenails
- Toenail fungus
- Foot odor
- Ankle pain, bruising, swelling, or limited range of motion
- Heel, arch, or top of the foot pain
- Fractures of a toe or a small bone of the foot
At Country Foot Care, our professionals are fully trained podiatrists, capable of astute diagnosis as well as effective treatment. Our office is completely up-to-date, equipped with modern technological devices. When you come to Country Foot Care, you can rest assured that you are coming to one of the very best podiatric offices on Long Island.
Diagnosis at Country Foot Care
We pride ourselves on taking every patient’s problem seriously and treating each patient as an individual, worthy of our full attention and concern. After a comprehensive physical examination of your feet and ankles, we use whatever equipment we feel is necessary to confirm an accurate diagnosis. We may use X-rays if we suspect bone damage or dislocation, ultrasound if we need to investigate your soft tissue. Sometimes, both will be necessary. If you have diabetes, we will administer vascular tests to check your circulation. If we suspect a fungal or other type of infection, or suspect a skin cancer, we will take scrapings of your toenail or skin tissue for microscopic analysis.
How are foot and ankle problems treated at Country Foot Care?
Like other responsible doctors, we begin with the most conservative measures whenever possible. This means that we may advise patients with minor injuries to use home remedies — rest, ice applications, compression, and elevation of the affected leg (methods collectively known as RICE). In some cases, this may be all that is necessary to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.
Obviously RICE is not curative of serious injuries, though it may be used in conjunction with more extensive interventions. At our fully equipped Patchogue office, we offer the following treatments:
- Laser therapy for fungal nails (having found topical and oral medications unreliable)
- Shockwave therapy (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy — ESWT) for foot pain
- Surgery, when it is necessary to relieve pain and restore full functionality
Is surgery performed at the Patchogue office of Country Foot Care?
While minor surgical procedures, such as toenail removal, are performed in our Patchogue office, more serious and/or complex operations are always performed at Brookhaven Hospital. Among other surgeries, our skilled doctors perform the following:
At Country Foot Care in Patchogue, we are concerned not only with helping you with your immediate foot problem, but with helping you to maintain podiatric health and well-being. We are committed to seeing you through complete healing after any treatment or surgical procedure and also ready to advise you about general foot care. In addition, we can fit you with any special devices, such as orthotics, that you require. Your comfort is always our first concern.
