Let’s Talk About A Pain Free Holiday

By: Dr. Justine RuTurkeyTrotdnik

What comes to mind during the Thanksgiving season are thoughts of bountiful turkey with stuffing, pumpkin pie and football. It’s a time when family and friends come together to give thanks and eat as much as they can. There will be lots of cooking, cleaning and of course, shopping. We’ve all been there: running through the aisles of the grocery store last minute, looking for that can of cranberry sauce we forgot to buy; or, chasing good deals and bargains throughout the mall on Black Friday. You have thought about everyone and everything else but, have you given a thought to your feet?

As a podiatrist, the thing that I see is amidst the chaos and fun, people tend to forget about the pressure they place on their feet. For the occasion, we will ditch comfort for stylish shoes to impress our family and friends. While the Pilgrims did not have a choice in the matter of shoe gear, we do. There are many comfortable and stylish options available nowadays. At Country Foot Care, we are fully equipped with our own Medical Shoe Store: our shoes not only provide comfort, but are also trendy. The shoes we have can get you through your holiday season pain free and as dapper, as possible.

Lastly, we would like to leave you with a few tips for a Healthy and Happy Holiday Season-

Before you embark on your Thanksgiving activities/shopping extravaganza, be sure to:
Wear comfortable and supportive shoes to keep your feet as pain free as possible.
Stay well hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. This will also help you to feel full and will decrease the amount of food you eat.
Leave time for some post-turkey feast exercise to burn off some of the 4,000 calories the average American will consume at the dinner table.
Stop stressing! Stress hormones can increase your blood sugar levels directly, so be sure to relax as best you can.

Happy Holidays from the entire staff at Country Foot Care!
