Country Foot CareWelcome to the first edition of Country Foot Care Foot Facts

“Now that summer is in full swing, some of you might be a little nervous about taking off those shoes and socks and showing your toenails. There are many people that have yellow, thick, crumbling nails and are embarrassed to bare them in public.

Most times (about 80%) thick, discolored nails are caused by fungus. The fungus can get inside of your nails, turning them yellow and sometimes black. Unfortunately, once fungus gets into the nail, it can be tough to eliminate. There are several options for treatment including oral medications, lotions, potions, creams and drops.  The newest and most effective treatment is the laser.

The laser kills the fungus, but doesn’t harm your body. A laser treatment may be given several times, depending upon the severity of your fungus. Once the laser has been used, it is important to remember that it can take up to a year for your nail to grow out new and healthy.

If you or someone you know has yellow, thick, fungal toenails and it is causing a great deal of pain or embarrassment, seek help from our office as soon as possible.”
