Has the treatment received FDA approval?
Yes. In 2010, PinPointe FootLaser received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of nail fungus (onychomycosis).
How does the treatment work?
A beam of light is emitted by the laser, which painlessly destroys the fungus in the nail without harming either the nail or the surrounding skin.
Does it hurt?
For most patients, not at all. Some say they feel some occasional heat from the laser, or the sensation of a mild pin prick. No anesthesia is ever needed.
How effective is it?
Approximately 90% of our patients who have undergone the treatment have seen significant improvement and eventually fungus-free nails. Results vary based on the severity of infection. Most important, there are no adverse side effects associated with the treatment (unlike prescription oral antifungal drugs).
What will happen in the provider’s office?
When you visit our facility for your no-obligation free consult, one of our laser-certified physicians will clinically evaluate the severity of your nail fungal infection. Your laser treatment begins with the thinning of the thick fungal nails, which allows the light from the laser to pass through the nail and eradicate the nail fungus. All ten nails are treated with the laser, which establishes a “fungus-free environment.” Post-treatment instructions designed to enhance fungus prevention are reviewed with the patient, and an aftercare kit containing anti-fungal cream and a shoe-sterilizing spray products are dispensed.
How long does the treatment take?
Treatment of all ten nails usually takes about twenty minutes.
Will I need multiple treatments?
Our treatment regimen includes the initial lasing of all ten toenails and two follow-up visits. At each follow-up visit, the patient’s response to the laser is evaluated, with additional laser treatments provided as needed at no additional cost.
Is there a recovery period after treatment?
Laser treatment is completely pain-free, and requires no recovery.
Can I use nail polish after treatment?
Post-treatment protocol calls for a two-week application of the anti-fungal cream dispensed in the aftercare kit. Holistic anti-fungal nailpolish, which is available in our office, can be applied after the two week period.
When will my feet start to look better?
Most people feel their nail appearance improves significantly when the nails are thinned during the first visit. The fungus-free nail that grows from that point, gradually replaces the initially infected nail. It takes approximately eight months for most patients to generate a complete fungus-free nail.
Is there a chance the fungus will return?
People with fungal nail infections are genetically predisposed to fungal infections. The permanent successful resolution of this problem is greatly influenced by patient compliance with our established aftercare prevention protocol.
Is the treatment covered by insurance?
No established insurance covers laser treatment of fungal nails. Some individuals have flex spending through their work, which may reimburse them for this service.
Are there payment plans?
Through Care Credit, six months, interest-free financing is available to qualified individuals.
