The right fit — custom shoes and inserts

Athletes are no strangers to injuries, foot and ankle issues are common among those who are required to run and maneuver on the field. Just ask BYU quarterback Taysom Hill. After needing surgery for a broken leg in 2014 and a Lisfranc fracture in his foot soon after, Hill has seen his share of operating rooms.

But now he has a plan to get ready for the 2016 season and keep his foot in check. According to Hill, Nike is working on a custom shoe that will keep him feeling steady during play. In an interview with Deseret News, Hill explained that the popular footwear company has embraced him as part of their research and development, giving him custom-made shoe inserts for the offseason and a shoe that gives support through the arch and allows for “orthotics as an insole on top of that.”

“We are literally exhausting every avenue to recover and to stay healthy and make sure my foot doesn’t make limitations,” Hill told Deseret News.

Is this customization excessive? We don’t think so! And you don’t have to be a football star to get top-of-the-line treatment. On a daily basis, we help patients who need shoes and inserts that are tailored to meet and treat their personal foot concerns.

So what are your options? Many foot and ankle problems can be reduced by adding support to your lower limbs. For some, pain relief can come in the form of over-the-counter inserts, but in some cases, special orthotics are the right choice. We think that finding the right type of support is like finding the right type of eyeglasses, so we take the time to complete a medical evaluation and create a custom-designed fit to match your unique needs. Depending on your situation, you might need a functional prescription (meaning the orthotics are made to control abnormal motion and correct problems) or an accommodative prescription (which are softer and designed with extra cushioning in mind).

For some of our patients, specially designed shoes are the best choice when dealing with foot problems. If this is the case for you, we’ll be with you every step of the way because our Mineola and Willison Park offices also double as shoe stores. That’s right–you can talk with an onsite podiatrist to ensure that you get the best product, in terms of both support and style. No more second-guessing in the checkout line. We pride ourselves in making certain that you leave with a footwear that keeps you as comfortable, attractive and mobile as possible. In addition, we carry a variety of podiatric accessories, from compression stockings to ankle braces.
