Hammertoes
A hammertoe is a structural deformity where one or more toes are contracted. Early staged hammertoes tend to be flexible, and may appear red or swollen. Long-standing hammertoes are rigid, and often have painful corns on top of the toes as a result of shoe friction.
Temporary relief of the pain associated with the corns can be achieved with regular debridement of the lesions. The permanent solution is surgical, during which time the contracted toes are straightened.
