Fungal Nails
A patient with fungal nails will notice their nails are thick and discolored. The thick nails are often a source of pain when patients walk in shoes. The fungus can effect only one toenail, or as many as all ten. There appears to be a genetic predisposition in many patients who develop toenail fungus.
Treatment of nail fungus using topical medications and so called “home remedies” like Chlorox and Vick’s Vapor Run are overwhelmingly ineffective treatments. Oral medication treatment regimens require frequent blood tests, and are associated with a long list of side effects.
The safest, most effective way to treat nail fungus is with a laser. The Podiatrists at Country Foot Care are certified on both the Pinpointe Foot Laser and the Cool Touch Cryo Laser, and we are the only Long Island office certified in both these machines.
The lasers use a gentle beam of light to vaporize the pathogens that cause nail fungus without harming the nails or surrounding skin. Laser treatments are administered in our state-of-the-art facility and generally take about 30 minutes per treatment. A comprehensive fungus prevention regimen is initiated following laser nail treatments.
Laser treatments are not covered by insurance. Most medical flex spending plans will reimburse patients who undergo laser treatments. Convenient, interest-free financing is also available for qualified patients.
